A source within Mercedes has revealed the Mercedes CLA will not be getting a diesel engine in the US market. Costs is the main factor behind the decision. Engineers would have to stuff a urea-injection system into the small sedan as well as deal with the price of federalizing the model.
The Mercedes GLA-Class could also arrive at a similar fate, although reports indicate that the compact crossover has a slightly better chance given its additional size.
Mercedes currently offers their clean diesel engines for the US market in the S-class, M-class, GL-class and GLK-class. They will extend their range to the C-Class from next year.
