Maserati has announced plans to offer the Quattroporte with a new diesel engine.

Displacing 3.0-liters, the VM Motori-sourced V6 has a variable geometry turbocharger, an engine start/stop system and a steel exhaust manifold with Air Gap technology for "higher exhaust temperatures and higher energy gas flow." Thanks to aforementioned technology, the engine will have outputs of 250 HP (184 kW) and 275 HP (202 kW). Detailed performance specifications were not released but the latter engine will enable the model to run from 0-100 km/h in 6.4 seconds.

To ensure the car still sounds like a proper Maserati, it will be equipped with an active sound system that has two acoustic actuators installed near the exhaust pipes that will "accentuate the distinctive sound of the engine and modulate it according to the way in which the car is driven."
