Motoring.com.au is reporting the next generation of the Viano will serve as a replacement for the unpopular R-Class.

Mercedes-Benz Australia van division manager Diane Tarr gave an interview to Motoring.com.au and declared the all-new Viano will come with several "passenger car-oriented systems and technologies." The German marque has been paving the way for a more passenger-focused Viano with several special editions of the current model. In addition, at last year's Beijing Motor Show they exhibited a luxurious Viano Vision Diamond concept with a Bang & Olufsen sound system, a 40-inch screen, WLAN and other lavish goodies.

This could mean Mercedes-Benz plans on repositioning the Viano as a model to replace the slow-selling R-Class. We will know for sure at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show where the new Viano will reportedly be unveiled.
