Citroen's C-lineup is about to be transformed into a budget-brand and a new report is indicating the company will preview the shift by unveiling the E3 Essential concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Set to embrace a “Pure, Simple, Smart" philosophy, the model will reportedly adopt styling cues from the C4 Picasso and C-Cactus concept.

The E3 Essential will eventually go into production and feature familiar engines and large body panels to reduce manufacturing costs. Despite being value oriented, the production model will reportedly feature a touchscreen infotainment system.

In the UK, the production version of the E3 Essential is expected to cost about £13,000 which puts it on par with the Skoda Rapid.
