Ford has announced they will sell the 2014 F-150 with compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquid petroleum gas (LPG) options.
It is important to mention the vehicles won't run on CNG/LPG straight from the factory as they must be fitted with a separate fuel system by a Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier. Depending on fuel tank size, this procedure will cost from 7,500 to 9,500 USD. The Blue Oval says an F-150 can travel for 750 miles (1,207 km) with a single tank of gas which means it will average the equivalent of 23 mpg on the highway.
The CNG/LPG package is available for the V6 3.7-liter engine and comes with hardened valves, pistons, rings and valve seats so it can run on gasoline or natural gas. A client must pay 315 USD to prepare the engine before the Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier installs the fuel tank, fuel lines and bespoke fuel injectors.
