Volkswagen has announced plans to offer a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system on the new Golf Variant.

Designed to handle the worst that mother nature can dish out, the all-wheel drive system promises to virtually eliminate the loss of traction.

The all-wheel drive system is offered on models equipped with a 1.6-liter TDI engine that produces 105 HP (77 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. It can also be ordered with the 2.0-liter TDI engine that develops 150 HP (110 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. Depending on which engine is selected, the Golf Variant 4MOTION averages 4.5 L/100km (52.2 mpg US / 62.7 UK) or 4.8 L/100km (49 mpg US / 58.8 mpg UK).

The Golf Variant 4MOTION is currently available to order and German pricing starts at €24,400.
