In a recent Jay Leno's Garage webisode we get to see the engine powering the legendary McLaren F1.

Although the McLaren P1 has been recently revealed, we are certain you still remember its predecessor – the F1. Work on the model started in back in 1990 and after four years of development the supercar came out with a 540,000 GBP price tag. At its heart was a BMW-derived V12 naturally aspirated engine generating no less than 627 bhp (467 kW) which for the early 90s was more than impressive.

Jay Leno's mechanics had to take off the V12 mill to replace the Vanos unit which was leaking. On this occasion, Leno thought it would be a good idea to record footage with the BMW engine. He describes the process as being "the scariest thing we have done here on Jay Leno's Garage."
