Mercedes has quietly introduced the 2014 Mercedes S500 Plug-in Hybrid at a small press briefing.

The company hasn't released official information but Mercedes-Benz Passion Blog went to the event and managed to learn some new details about the upcoming model which will be introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

According to the site, the car uses a six-cylinder petrol engine that develops 333 HP (245 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque. It is backed up by an electric motor which is powered by a trunk-mounted 8.7 kWh battery. The engine reportedly powers the rear wheels, while the electric motor motivates the front wheels.

This setup should enable the model to travel at least 30 km (18.6 miles) on electricity alone. More importantly, the model will be a "3-liter car" (78.4 mpg US / 94.1 mpg UK) and have CO2 emissions of less than 75 g/km.
