Audi has announced the refreshed A8 flagship will be out before the end of the year with matrix LED headlights.

Those matrix LED headlights encompass 25 high-beam LEDs clustered in groups of five with reflectors. Audi says the system is so precise that it "blanks out light that would shine directly onto oncoming and preceding vehicles, but continues to cast the high beams with full power on all other zones between and beside them."

The system can turn off or dim the LEDs as necessary depending on traffic conditions. In addition, it doesn't require servo motors to direct light and can work as cornering headlamps. Matrix LED headlights are compatible with the firm's optional night vision system.

The only problem is these headlights have been banned from United States due to a regulation dating from 1968.

More details can be found in the attached press release.
