Audi's head of research and development has reportedly been fired over his refusal to embrace pure electric vehicles.
Audi has declined to comment on the situation but Wolfgang Dürheimer was apparently ousted due to clashes over electric vehicles and platform sharing. Nothing is official, but several outlets say Dürheimer was blamed for axing the A1 and R8 e-trons.
If the reports are correct, Dürheimer's departure is a tad surprising since he has held a series of high-profile positions within the Volkswagen Group. These have previously including be being Porsche's Head of Development, Bugatti's President and Bentley's CEO.
Dürheimer is expected to be replaced by Ulrich Hackenberg but there's no word on whether or not we can expect any changes to the company's future lineup.
