The Audi R8 helped to transform the company's image and new details are starting to emerge about the next-generation model which is expected in 2015.

According to Auto Express, the next-generation R8 will have similar proportions to today's model but adopt a more dynamic design with a prominent grille which is flanked by matrix-beam LED lights. We can also expect aggressive air intakes, shorter side blades and a Le Mans inspired "double diffuser."

The cabin is slated to get a high-tech makeover as sources suggest it will come equipped with a digital instrument cluster, a digital rearview mirror and an upgraded MMI infotainment system.

Engine options are rumored to carryover with minor modifications to increase their output by approximately 25 bhp (19 kW). This means choices could include a 4.2-liter V8 with roughly 450 bhp (335 kW) and a 5.2-liter V10 with about 570 bhp (425 kW). The engines are also expected to feature start/stop technology and a cylinder deactivation system which could improve fuel efficiency by up to ten percent.

Given its performance aspirations, the car is expected to incorporate a number of lightweight components including carbon fiber reinforced plastic body panels, carbon fiber reinforced plastic anti-roll bars and "glass fiber-reinforced polymer suspension springs." There could also be ceramic brakes, titanium wheel hubs and a multi-material spaceframe that is reportedly 23 percent carbon fiber. Thanks to all these changes, the 2015 Audi R8 could weigh less than 1,500 kg (3,307 lbs).
