General Motors has announced owners of 2014 models will receive a number of new benefits.
First and foremost, owners will receive five years of free access to RemoteLink Key Fob Services. This will enable owners of OnStar-equipped vehicles to remotely lock/unlock doors, activate the horn/lights and start the vehicle - even if they don't pay for OnStar services. The functions are easily accessible through a RemoteLink Mobile smartphone app that works with 36 different GM models.
According to GM's Global Connected Consumer President, Mary Chan, “Our vehicles are getting more connected, and so are we. As mobile devices become a bigger part of our lives, GM understands the importance of providing our customers the ability to use these devices as part of their vehicle experience."
In related news, GM announced certain 2014 Buick, Chevrolet and GMC models will come with free scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles (whichever comes first). The plan will cover four service visits that deal with oil changes and tire rotations.
