Opel is now offering the 1.6 SIDI Turbo engine for the Astra GTC. This power unit is already available for the rest of the lineup (five-door hatchback, four-door sedan and Sports Tourer).

The 1.6 SIDI (Spark Ignition Direct Injection) turbocharged mill is capable of delivering 170 HP (125 kW) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) or up to 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) of torque with overboost function. The engine can be mated to either a standard six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission.

With the manual, the Opel Astra GTC has a NEDC-tested fuel consumption of only 6.1 liters / 100 km (38.5 mpg US or 46.3 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of 143 g/km. It will do the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 8.6 seconds while 80 km/h (50 mph) to 120 km/h (74 mph) in fifth gear takes 9.3 seconds. Top speed is rated at 219 km/h (136 mph).

Already available on order, the Opel Astra GTC with the 1.6-liter SIDI Turbo starts in Germany from 23,850 EUR (VAT included).
