The Dodge Journey has been on the market since 2008 but a new report is indicating the next-generation model won't arrive until 2016.

According to Automotive Compass' sources, the 2016 Journey will be built in Sterling Heights, Michigan and ride on the CUSW platform that is underpins the Dodge Dart, Jeep Cherokee and 2015 Chrysler 200.

Moving production to Michigan is expected to reduce costs but it could result in higher prices for the next-generation Fiat Freemont as vehicles exported from the United States are subject to higher fees than those from Mexico.

Little else is known about the Journey at this point, but engines could be shared with the model's CUSW counterparts.
