Vauxhall has announced the introduction of the 2013 VXR8 GTS which is based on the recently revealed HSV GEN-F GTS.

At its heart is the supercharged V8 LSA mill producing 576 bhp (429 kW) and 545 lb-ft (738 Nm) of torque, making it 150 bhp (112 kW) and 140 lb-ft (189 Nm) more powerful than the outgoing LS3-engined VXR8. Those ponies are sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox or an optional six-speed automatic.

Vauxhall didn't release performance figures but these will be significantly better than the predecessor's 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time in 4.9 seconds and 155 mph (250 km/h) top speed. The new VXR8 GTS packs torque vectoring and third-gen magnetic ride control with three stiffness modes: Touring, Sport and Track. Behind the gear lever there's the Driver Preference Dial with four modes to choose from: Touring, Sport, Performance and Track - which adjust the car's ESC, traction control, launch control (for manual model), exhaust, electronic power steering and brake torque vectoring.

It comes with 20-inch alloys wrapped around in 255/35 R20 front and 275/35 R20 rear Continental tires and stops efficiently thanks to forged aluminum six-piston caliper with two-piece discs. Safety features include side blind zone alert with reverse traffic alert, front/rear park assist, automatic park assist, head-up display, reversing camera and forward collision alert.

Already available on order, the 2013 Vauxhall VXR8 GTS has a starting price of 54,999 GBP. Deliveries will begin before the end of the year.
