The Opel Astra is now available with a 1.6-liter SIDI Turbo gasoline engine.

The new mill generates 170 HP (125 kW) and 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) of torque and is a replacement for the old 1.6 Turbo. It provides an extra 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) compared to its predecessor, while torque availability has dropped from 2,200 rpm to just 1,650 rpm.

It's available for the five-door hatchback, four-door sedan and Sports Tourer versions of the Astra and consumes 14 percent less fuel than the previous engine, being capable to have a NEDC fuel consumption of 5.9 liters / 100 km (39.9 mpg US or 47.9 mpg UK) for the hatchback and sedan.

The power unit is connected to a new six-speed manual gearbox or an optional low-friction six-speed automatic with Active Select Function to enable manual shifting.

The 1.6 SIDI Turbo-equipped Astra hatchback is priced from 23,385 EUR, followed by the Sports Tourer at 24,485 EUR. The sedan will be available with the new engine starting this fall.
