The Audi R18 e-Tron quattro could be getting a hybrid competitor at next year's 24 Hours of Le Mans as a new report is indicating Nissan is developing a hybrid race car.

Set to be designed by Ben Bowlby, of DeltaWing fame, the car will reportedly be able to run on electricity alone for short periods of time.

When asked about the car, Nissan executive vice president Andy Palmer told Autocar "The final configuration of the drivetrain is still up for discussion, but we have made significant progress." He added that Nissan has "to be in a position to showcase electric technology and we have to have a car that is as visually arresting as the DeltaWing."
