Volkswagen has announced the US-spec Beetle Turbo and Jetta GLI will come equipped with the company's new EA888 Gen 3 engine.
Set to go on sale later this month, the 2013 models will feature the new turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that produces 210 bhp (157 kW) and 207 lb-ft (280 Nm) of torque. This will enable the Beetle Turbo to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 6.6 seconds, while the Jetta GLI will accomplish the same task in 6.7 seconds.
Besides being more powerful, the new engine is 8 pounds (3.6 kg) lighter than the previous unit and is expected to be four to eight percent more fuel efficient in the combined cycle.
In related news, the Beetle Turbo gains R-Line bumpers while the Jetta GLI boasts new LED taillights.
Volkswagen also announced the new Beetle R-Line will be priced from $30,135 when it goes on sale later this month.
