Auto Motor und Sport has learned Mercedes-Benz is planning a long wheelbase variant of the new CLA.

About a week ago we found out a more practical CLA Shooting Brake is in the pipeline for a possible 2014 release, following this year's GLA launch. The A-Class-based expansion won't stop here as apparently Mercedes-Benz will start building in China a long wheelbase variant of the four-door coupe.

Intended mostly for the Chinese market, the CLA LWB could be sold in other regions as well when it reaches the market sometime in 2015. It will be manufactured exclusively at the firm's expanded factory in Beijing.

Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche wants to boost China sales to 300,000 cars by 2015 and 66 percent of them will be locally made. Right now Mercedes-Benz is producing the C-, E- and GLK-Class, followed next year by A- and B-Class models.
