The BMW 2-Series Convertible has been spied for the first time with the roof down.

BMW will inaugurate the 2-Series family with the coupe later this year which will be joined in early 2014 by the convertible. Seen here in these photos is the cabrio with the canvas roof down while testing on the public roads of Munich.

Set to be sportier than the outgoing 1-Series Convertible, the new model will be powered only by 4-cylinder engines. We should expect to see a 2.0-liter gasoline mill offered with various outputs: 150 bhp (112 kW), 177 bhp (132 kW) and 218 bhp (163 kW). There's also going to be a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine delivering 214 bhp (160 kW). These engines will be linked to a 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 8-speed automatic.

For an additional cost, customers will have the possibility of ordering the 2-Series Cabrio with BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system.
