Audi is still not sure whether to launch a supercar with technology derived from the R18 e-tron quattro, along with a Porsche Boxster-sized sportscar.

Wolfgang Durheimer (Audi's technical chief) declared during 2013 Auto Shanghai "no business decision on series production” has been taken so far regarding the supercar, "but we hope to create one". Allegedly known as Scorpion, the platform has not been finalized yet while the engine still represents an "open question", but they have made some progress in terms of design.

Audi is also analyzing the prospects of launching a sportscar below the R8 which will have just about the same size as the Porsche Boxster. However, the project is not a priority right now at Ingolstadt even though the model has gone through "design, packaging and evaluation" phases. Durheimer envisions this model as mid-engined with 50:50 weight distribution, "perfect handling" and two trunks.
