An official announcement about Toyota Matrix's future in United States will arrive in the next few weeks, but reports are already indicating the compact hatchback will be axed.
The Matrix is unlikely to receive a new version once the next-gen Corolla is out sometime this year (before the L.A. Auto Show in November). The reasoning behind this decision has to do with a low demand for the hatchback.
Although nothing is official at this moment, the Corolla-based Matrix will probably not be offered in United States anymore, but apparently demand is strong enough in Canada to keep the car on sale. To fully comprehend how slow sales have been in the United States, Toyota does not even include the Matrix as a separate model in charts about individual sales (but maybe they add it in Corolla's total sales figure to keep it the best-selling nameplate in the world.)
