Volkswagen has announced the 2013 Golf Variant has a starting price in Germany of 18,950 EUR.
For this money you will be getting the entry-level Trendline 1.2-liter TSI model offering 85 HP (63 kW). This direct-injection EA211 gasoline turbo engine is also offered with 90 HP (66 kW), 105 HP (77 kW), 122 HP (90 kW) and 140 HP (103 kW). On the diesel side there's the EA288 with 105 HP (77 kW), 110 HP (81 kW) and 150 HP (110 kW).
The Golf Variant BlueMotion diesel produces 110 HP (81 kW) and comes with a six-speed manual gearbox which allows the model to return 71.3 mpg US (85.6 mpg UK or 3.3 liters / 100 km) with CO2 emissions of 87 g/km. Depending on engine selection, Volkswagen offers five- and six-speed transmissions, as well as a dual-clutch DSG.
Compared to its predecessor, luggage compartment has grown from 505 liters to 605 liters with the seats up, but if you fold them down space is increased to 1,620 liters (up from 1,495 liters). It has a 41.5 inch (1054mm) long cargo area which can be expanded by folding the rear seats to 72.1 inches (1831mm), while the load sill is 24.8 inches (630mm) tall.
Standard equipment includes seven airbags, stop/start system, electronic stability control, five-inch TFT touchscreen display and air conditioning. Optionally available are systems like Front Assist, Automatic Distance Control, Traffic Sign Recognition, Lane Keeping Assist and Park Assist.
