From the outset, Ford wanted the truck to be fuel efficient so some designers envisioned a model that would have aerodynamic front fascia with a stylish grille that mimics the Fusion. Designers also played around with a distinctive glass roof and a slick tailgate that opened to reveal a toolbox and a first aid kit.

In the end, Ford turned the Atlas into a fairly conservative concept which closely previews the 2015 F-150. Despite eschewing a lot of the ideas, the Atlas has an illuminated bed which makes loading cargo easier at night.
