BMW and its Chinese partner Brilliance Automotive are analyzing the prospects of a new co-developed brand for export markets.

Global sales chief Ian Robertson said these new models would be targeted to both developing and mature markets, without ruling out the possibility of bringing them to Europe. The vehicles are expected to be based on the platforms used by both parties at the Shenyang, China plant, including the 3-Series and X1. The name of this new brand will be revealed to the public later this month at the 2013 Auto Shanghai. Various reports are indicating the "Zhi Nuo" moniker which means "The Promise".

This information comes at a time when BMW (together with Audi and Mercedes-Benz) are being investigated in China because in some of their cars asphalt was found to be used as sound deadener. So far none of the three were sanctioned but chances are a significant recall is about to happen.
