Maserati has released the first teaser image of an upcoming model that will be unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show.

The picture doesn't reveal much but the overall shape matches up with the highly-anticipated Ghibli which was previously rumored to debut at the show.

The Ghibli will slot beneath the Quattroporte and measure approximately 4900mm long. Little else is known about the model, but a purported design mockup suggested the car could have LED-infused headlights, a prominent grille and a distinctive shoulder line.

Engine options remain a mystery, but previous reports have indicated the car could be equipped with a 385 hp (287 kW) twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6, a 480 hp (358 kW) twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 and possibly a VM Motori-sourced 3.0-liter diesel. The engines will likely be connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission which can be paired to an optional all-wheel drive system.
