The Volkswagen Golf VII has been named the 2013 World Car of the Year. It won over jurors by being spacious, practical and comfortable.
The Volkswagen Golf VII has been named the 2013 World Car of the Year.
The model was praised for being "spacious, practical and comfortable" as well as "fun to drive." In the end, the panel of 66 automotive journalists decided "If ever there was a car for everyman, the Golf is it.”
In the World Performance Car category, the Porsche Boxster / Cayman beat out the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and the Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ / Toyota GT 86. While everyone might not agree with their decision, the jurors declared the Cayman was a better "sports car than the iconic 911."
Another hotly contested category was World Car Design of the Year. It went to the Jaguar F-Type which was selected over the Aston Martin Vanquish and Mazda6. According to the specially-appointed panel that selected the final candidates, the F-Type "looks very dynamic" while still remaining elegant.
Last but not least, the Tesla Model S was named the 2013 World Green Car of the Year. It beat the Renault Zoe and Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid due to its impressive performance, outstanding range and stylish design.
