Since its official release last September, Audi's mid-engined R8, carrying the name of a five time Le Mans-winner, has worthily earned its position as a serious contestant in the heavyweight league of sports cars. Despite being sold out for the next year and unquestionably epitomizing the ultimate Audi, there are people in the business of ÃƒÆ’Ã‚Â¢ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚Â¬Ãƒâ€¦Ã¢â‚¬Å“making the best even better,ÃƒÆ’Ã‚Â¢ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚Â¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â and Audi tuning workshops Kicherer and B&B are the latest to unveil their R8 interpretations. The Siegen-based Audi-tuner B&B Automobiltechnik has refined the R8 with both cosmetic and technical modifications, raising power from the standard 4.2-litre V8's 420 bhp to a satisfying 450 bhp, cutting acceleration time from naught to 100 km/h by 0.3 seconds and the 0 ÃƒÆ’Ã‚Â¢ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚Â¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã…â€œ 200 km/h time by a second. The B&B R8's 20-inch wheels are 9ÃƒÆ’Ã‚Â¢ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚Â¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Âx20 in the front, sitting 235/30-30 tires and the wider 11ÃƒÆ’Ã‚Â¢ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚Â¬Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Âx20 rear wheels mean mightily wide 305/25-20 rear tires. With B&B's sport springs the car has been lowered 10 mm on the rear axle and 20 mm on the front axle. While B&B relied on a power increase as a technical improvement, Kicherer has gone down an entirely different route. Kicherer has focused on aerodynamics and weight stripping, and what Kicherer engineers have found in the wind tunnel is impressive. Thanks to aerodynamic improvements, such as a new front spoiler and an additional rear wing spoiler, lift on the front axle has been reduced by 15% with the rear spoiler pushing the rear down. The light-weight three-part 20-inch wheels, oozing a racing look, sit on 235 mm tires in the front and on colossally wide 325 mm tires in the rear. Where B&B has gone far, Kicherer has gone further.
