Maserati has been doing a pretty good job of keeping the Ghibli under wraps, but several purported images of the car have surfaced online.

Apparently design mockups, the pictures portray the model as a stylish sedan that clearly echoes the Quattroporte. As such, the car is equipped with a prominent grille, curvaceous bodywork and a distinctive shoulder line. There's also LED-infused headlights and a dual exhaust system.

As we have previously reported, the Ghibli will slot beneath the Quattroporte and battle the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series and Mercedes E-Class. It is expected to measure approximately 4900mm long which would make it roughly 300mm shorter than its larger brother.

Engine options are expected to include a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 with 385 hp (287 kW) and a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 with roughly 480 hp (358 kW). There have also been rumors about a diesel variant, so don't be surprised if we see a 3.0-liter unit sourced from VM Motori. The engines will likely be connected to a eight-speed automatic transmission which can be paired to an optional all-wheel drive system.

The Ghibli could be unveiled as early as the Shanghai Auto Show, so expect to learn more in the coming months.
