The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has chosen the safest cars to drive this year.
They also came up with a new Top Safety Pick+ list which includes mostly mid-size sedans: Acura TL, Chrysler 200, Dodge Avenger, Ford Fusion, Honda Accord Sedan/Coupe, Kia Optima, Nissan Altima Sedan, Subaru Legacy, Subaru Outback, Suzuki Kizashi, Volkswagen Passat and the Volvo S60.
To earn the Top Safety Pick+ rating, a vehicle must obtain good ratings for occupant protection in at least 4 of 5 evaluations, and no less than “acceptable” in the fifth test.
The IIHS awarded 117 cars a Top Safety Pick thanks to their good ratings for occupant protection in moderate overlap front crash, small overlap frontal crash, rollover and side impact, as well as positive evaluations of seat/head restraints.
