Volkswagen could launch an all-wheel drive version of the Polo sometime in the future.
VW's head of R&D Ulrich Hackenberg considers an all-wheel drive variant of the Polo "could be great for some countries." Although he said there aren't any plans at the moment, he does see a future for this kind of car since VW wants to use WRC to form an "emotional link" with its clients.
Such a car won't be a novelty in the VW Group as they already have the Audi A1 quattro which is based on the same PQ25 platform used for the Polo.
Volkswagen recently unveiled the Polo R WRC Street, a range-topping FWD version of the supermini capable of reaching 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.4 seconds and a top speed of 151 mph (243 km/h). It will be limited to 2,500 units and priced at 33,900 EUR.
