Our photographers were able to take a few pictures of the upcoming BMW 2-Series Coupe.

2013 is an important year for BMW as they will make some modifications in the naming system. The coupe and convertible versions of the 1-Series will get the 2-Series moniker. The same rule will be applied for the 3-Series which will spawn into a 4-Series Coupe and Convertible. These will probably be joined in the future by GranCoupe versions.

These are the first photos of the 2-Series Coupe which will be based on the 1-Series hatchback so it will borrow its engine lineup and most of the tech. BMW said it will be sportier than the current 1-Series Coupe, but under its hood it will get the same four-cylinder engines. The 2.0-liter gasoline unit will be offered with 150 hp (112 kW), 177 hp (132 kW) and 218 hp (163 kW), along with a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel producing 214 hp (160 kW).

These engines will be connected as standard to a 6-speed manual gearbox or an optional 8-speed automatic. BMW plans on offering its xDrive all-wheel drive system for the upcoming 2-Series lineup.

The 2-Series Coupe will be revealed in late 2013, followed by its Convertible counterpart sometime in 2014.
