Mercedes-Benz has developed a new type of 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive system with fully variable torque distribution.

The system will make its debut on next year's CLA and will find its way on other models offered as standard with FWD. The highlights of this new system are the power take-off to the rear axle built into the 7G-DCT automated dual-clutch transmission and the rear-axle gear with built-in electro-hydraulically-controlled multi-disk clutch. As a result, it provides full variable distribution of the drive torque between axles.

It will be offered paired to the aforementioned 7G-DCT seven-speed and has been designed to be lighter by "up to 25 percent in comparison to rival systems." The system will be available for the regular CLA and the more powerful CLA 45 AMG version.

The Mercedes-Benz CLA / CLA 45 AMG will be showcased in January at the Detroit Motor Show.

Full details about this new type of 4MATIC are available in the attached press release.
