With some work, this Cadillac CTS-V could be a dream – but it could also be a nightmare.
In some ways, searching for your next project car on Copart is a lot like searching on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace. In other ways, it's very different.
Almost every car on Copart is damaged in some way – fire, theft recovery, flooding, vandalism, and, of course, the classic: accident damage. Copart is where dreams go to die and where new ones begin.
This CTS-V was clearly someone's dream car before its accident, and if you're a talented mechanic and body man, it might just be yours, too.
We'll start with the good. Copart states that the 640 horsepower, 6.2 liter V8 engine starts and runs, and with just 13,812 miles on the odometer, the drivetrain is practically brand new. The Roto-Fab cold air intake visible under the partially crumpled hood is a sign that there may be additional aftermarket goodies for the buyer to discover.
The buyer is also likely to discover frame damage and an expensive and time-consuming project if they hope to return this car to daily driver duty. Copart cryptically lists the damage location as "ALL OVER."
With airbags deployed inside, clear suspension damage, and both front and rear end body damage visible, we'd expect some additional hidden damage as well. After the ordeal of rebuilding this machine, it still might not be 100% right, and it will have a branded title to boot.
Still, if you've got the right skills, the right tools, a lot of free time, and an urge to own one of America's premier sport sedans on a budget, now's your chance. Just don't say that we didn't warn you.
