Manual transmissions are becoming increasingly rare, but Jaguar has reportedly decided to bring them back to their lineup.

Jaguar's global brand director, Adrian Hallmark, told Autocar he recognizes the benefits of manual transmissions and sports cars need them for "credibility." This likely implies a six-speed manual will eventually find its way to the F-Type. Hallmark did not say when the gearbox could be introduced, but the magazine says it's at least a year off.

Despite his newfound love of the stick shift, Hallmark said he couldn't imagine a manual in the XJ. This isn't surprising because most of its key competitors don't offer one anyways. However, he hinted that "the XF is the biggest format we could move to for a manual.”

In related news, Hallmark confirmed Jaguar and Land Rover will adopt ZF's new nine-speed automatic transmission in the coming years.
