The bespoke creation will celebrate the company's 115th anniversary.
RM Sotheby’s recently expanded headquarters in the New York served as the venue this week for an important announcement regarding a completely bespoke Phantom set to cross the auction block this fall. The one-of-one luxury sedan will be built to celebrate 115 years since The Honourable Charles Stewart Rolls and Sir Frederick Henry Royce met for the very first time, which was precisely on May 4, 1904.
Guests invited to RM Sotheby’s swanky 90,000-square-feet HQ enjoyed a five-course dinner and had the opportunity to see a sketch of the special car, which will be finished in red combined with an “original hand-crafted leather” on the inside. Additional details about the car are not available at the moment of writing, but chances are there will be some unique features to mark the important milestone.
Therefore, we’re expecting goodies such as an exclusive plaque on the dashboard, along with custom door sills, and special embroidery for the seat upholstery. RM Sotheby’s refers to the Phantom’s exterior finish as being an “inspired red color combination,” so look for a two-tone finish and quite possibly special badges signaling 115 years of Rolls-Royce.
In a rather surprising move, the anniversary Phantom will be available exclusively through an online auction. It’s set to take place sometime this fall, with additional details to be disclosed in the coming months. With the standard Phantom carrying a starting price of approximately $450,000, this one-off creation should easily exceed the half-a-million mark given its extras and extremely limited availability.
According to Martin Fritsches, President and CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Americas, the unique Phantom “offers one special owner the chance to enjoy a motor car that is bound to be a classic over the next 115 years.”
