Spy photographers have managed to catch an HSV prototype with the telltale whine of a supercharger.

Go Auto is reporting the model is likely equipped with the supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8 engine that powers the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. The engine would likely be detuned from its current output of 580 bhp (432 kW) and 556 lb-ft (754 Nm) of torque, but it would undoubtedly produce more than the 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine - that develops 436 bhp (325 kW) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque - in the HSV GTS and Grange.

The engine is expected to be offered in next-generation HSV models which will be based on the new Holden VF Commodore. Since the latter model will underpin the Chevrolet SS Performance, there is the possibility that the supercharged engine could be offered in the American-bound sedan.

Besides the new engine, the 2014 HSV models could feature improved transmissions, lightweight body panels and Brembo brakes. There could also be a limited-slip differential, magnetic ride control and a bi-modal exhaust system.
