Volkswagen has announced that next year they will launch the GT version of the Up!
At the beginning of the year there were some talks about a potential GT version of the Volkswagen Up! No more speculations from now on as VW’s R&D chief Ulrich Hackenberg has confirmed that a hotter version of the Up! city car will be launched next year.
When the standard version debuted last year during the Frankfurt Motor Show, the German firm also revealed some concepts based on the Up! The new model is expected to get the same 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder engine but tuned to output 109 hp (81 kW) and 120 lb-ft (162 Nm) of torque, linked to a 6-speed manual transmission. Other changes over the standard model will include bigger alloys, a sports suspension, sports seats, an updated interior and a more aggressive body kit.
The same VW representative mentioned that an all-electric variant of the Up! will be launched in 2013, representing the company’s first pure EV that will be followed by an EV version of the Golf VII. Also next year Volkswagen will launch a CNG version of the Up!
