Peugeot has presented at the 2012 Paris Motor Show the new 208 TYPE R5 that will compete in various championships starting with 2013.


After an initial teaser released about two weeks ago, Peugeot has presented in Paris this week the 208 TYPE R5 rally car, a vehicle with great ambitious as the French automaker plans on introducing it next year in various competitions, including International Rally Challenge, European Rally Championship and national championships as well.

Under the hood of the 208 TYPE R5 is a 1.6-liter turbo engine that develops 280 bhp (208 kW) at 6,000 rpm, with the 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) peak torque reached at 2,500 rpm. The power is sent to all four wheels of the car through a 5-speed sequential gearbox and two self-locking differentials. It has a long travel suspension and it lacks a central differential.

The Peugeot 208 TYPE R5 is 3962 mm long, 1820mm wide and has a 2560mm wheelbase. It comes with 18-inch aluminum monoblock wheels with 225x40x18 tires for asphalt or 15-inch wheels with 215x65x15 rubbers for gravel.

Since this is an R5 car, it won’t have a price tag higher than 180,000 euros ($238,700) excluding taxes, taking into account the FIA regulations.
