The Renault Alpine is inching closer to production as COO Carlos Tavares has revealed the company is close to inking a deal with another automaker to jointly build the model.

Details are limited, but Tavares said the unnamed partner will launch their own version of the car with "different styling and tuning." He went on to say the Alpine is currently under development and engineers have just finished the car's platform layout. Designers are now working on the styling and the executive hinted the "proportions look pretty good."

In rather frank admission, Tavares also commented "We could have given our engineers €50 million and told them to make the best of it. But that would probably have produced a mediocre car because it's not much money to play with. Alpine has a great history, and we want to make emotional cars that will be true to that."
