Buick has announced the eAssist system will be standard equipment on the 2013 Regal.

Originally unveiled in 2011, the system pairs a 182 hp (136 kW / 185 PS) 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with a 15 hp (11 kW / 15 PS) electric motor that is powered by a 115-volt lithium-ion battery. There's also an engine start/stop system, regenerative braking and an electric motor boost function which reduces the engine load during acceleration.

Thanks to all the high-tech wizardry, the Regal eAssist is expected to return 25 mpg city / 36 mpg highway. This compares to the previously standard, non-eAssist engine that returned 19 mpg city / 31 mpg highway.

The 2013 Buick Regal will be priced from $29,015 which represents at $1,960 premium over the 2012 model.
