One of the biggest surprises of the Moscow Motor Show comes from the local automaker AvtoVAZ. This is the Lada XRAY concept, a small crossover that was designed by Steve Mattin, the same person responsible for the looks of the Mercedes-Benz ML-Class and the Volvo XC60. Mattin is now in charge with the design of future Lada models and also for the ones of sister company Volga.

According to the Russian automaker, the design of this crossover will have an impact on future models wearing the Lada badge, especially the front grille look. Inside the cabin of the XRAY we notice the same edgy styling of the exterior, along with a very nice leather upholstery and a futuristic dashboard.

With the upcoming models that will be influenced by this concept, Lada wants to increase its market share in Russia beyond the current 40 percent. The first cars to get a similar design won’t be out until 2015 and according to various sources the first one will be the Priora.

AvtoVAZ also revealed in Moscow this week the El Lada, an electric vehicle based on the Lada Kalina that can provide a range of up to 93 miles (150 km).
