A prototype of the upcoming Volkswagen Golf VII R has been spied while undergoing some preliminary testing.
The seventh generation of the Volkswagen Golf will be unveiled on September 4th before arriving to the Paris Motor Show. The prototype you see in these spy photos is the R version of the Golf VII which will feature a center-mounted dual exhaust system, a more masculine front fascia and aerodynamic side skirts.
The Golf R is tipped to get a high-performance braking system, a sport-tuned suspension, along with 19- or even larger 20-inch alloys. Under the hood it will probably have the company’s 2.0-liter turbocharged engine tuned to develop 280 hp (208 kW / 284 PS) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. The hot hatch should be able to perform the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in under 6 seconds, en route to a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
