Our spies have already snapped pictures of the 2013 Opel Insignia OPC (aka Vauxhall VXR) and now comes word an even hotter variant could be in the works.

Autocar has learned engineers are looking to push the turbocharged 2.8-liter V6 engine to its limits. Nothing is official, but the magazine says the variant could offer as much as 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS). For comparison, the standard model has an output of 321 hp (239 kW / 325 PS) and 435 Nm (321 lb-ft) of torque.

To cope with the extra power, the car could have a retuned suspension, enlarged brakes and a revised all-wheel drive system.

The model could be unveiled with the facelifted Insignia is introduced in 2013.
