Mercedes has announced deliveries for the most fuel efficient E-Class ever sold on UK shores will begin in November with a starting price of £39,645 for the sedan and £41,435 for the estate.
The E 300 BlueTEC Hybrid draws its inspiration from a 2.1-liter diesel engine that has been coupled with a lithium-ion battery powered electric motor and 7G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission.
While the combustion engine generates a respectable 204 PS (150 kW / 201 bhp) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque, the electric motor adds an additional 20 kW of power and brings the torque figure up to a superb 750 Nm (553 lb-ft).
Acceleration from 0-100kph (0-62mph) takes 7.5 seconds in the lighter sedan body style before top speed is reached at 150mph (241kph). The estate takes an additional 0.3 seconds to accelerate to the same speed while top speed is 6mph shy of the sedan's figure.
Fuel economy is rated as low as 65.7mpg (4.3l/100km) and CO2 emissions are reported to be 109g/km.
