The 2013 Spark with automatic gearbox can return 32 mpg in the combined cycle.
EPA has released the ratings for the 2013 Chevrolet Spark fitted with the automatic gearbox. The city car comes with a four-speed transmission and it returns 28 mpg city / 37 mpg highway / 32 mpg combined, compared to the 32 / 38 / 34 mpg figures of the version equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Both versions have the same 4-cylinder, 1.2-liter engine that produces 85 hp.
Even though it is considerably smaller than the 2012MY Sonic sedan (6-speed automatic), the gas mileage of the Spark is only 1 mpg better. What's more surprising is that the manual 6-speed version of the Sonic sedan is actually more efficient on the highway than the manual Spark.
This automatic version of the 2013 Chevrolet Spark has a starting price of $13,920 while the manual Spark LS is cheaper, with a base price of $12,995. By the way, the manual Spark is right now the cheapest vehicle on sale in the United States. However, a lot of people will probably prefer the Sonic Sedan LS as it costs $14,660 manual / $15,730 automatic and it's larger and more powerful, plus it's also a wiser choice for those that drive a lot on the highway.
