With the launch of the new Leon this week, Seat has also hinted that for the first time a 3-door version of the medium sized hatchback (the SportCoupe) will be released along with an estate variant (SportTourer in Seat speak).
‘Automotive Manipulator’ Theophilus Chin has taken it upon himself to beat Seat’s designers at their own game and design the 3-door Leon for them. Using the newly released Leon as a base, he has taken inspiration from the IBE Concept from 2010 for the rear end, along with how Seat transform the Ibiza from 5-door to 3-door and applied it to the Leon.
A 3-door Leon would be a big break for Seat, given that until now they have always been held back by parent company Volkswagen AG and not allowed to have a sportier 3-door Leon. The Cupra and Cupra R models have always been 5-door, whereas now this ‘SportCoupe’ model could allow Seat to make a more overtly sporting version of the Cupra R, one to truly rival the Golf GTi.
