After a successful launch in the Fiat Panda, 500 and Punto, the Fiat Group’s impressive TwinAir engine has finally made its way into the Alfa Romeo MiTo for the UK.

It has been expected that the smallest Alfa Romeo would be getting the TwinAir engine for some time but it seemed as if it wouldn’t happen until now. Promising impressive economy, emissions and performance, the MiTo TwinAir reinforces the MiTo’s image as a high-tech, sporty, compact car offering maximum driving pleasure whilst exceeding driver expectations.

The 2-cylinder 875cc TwinAir Turbo engine, mated to a close ratio 6-speed gearbox, delivers a maximum of 85 bhp (62.5 kW) at 5,500 rpm and a torque of 145 Nm at 2,000 rpm. Maximum torque is available from 2,000 rpm and is constant up to 3,500 rpm – between 10% and 25% more torque when compared to the 105 and 78hp petrol engines in the current range. 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) takes 12.5 seconds and the top speed is 108 mph.

Of importance to many drivers, the CO2 emissions of the MiTo TwinAir are just 98 g/km and it boasts a class-leading combined fuel economy of 67.3 mpg.

The MiTo TwinAir will come in two trim levels – Sprint and Distinctive. Sprint gets equipment including 16” alloy wheels, a rear spoiler and foglights, whilst the Distinctive adds 17” alloy wheels, red painted Brembo brake callipers, a sports rear bumper and a chrome finish for the headlight trim, wing mirrors and exhaust pipes.

Prices start in the UK at £14,150 for the Sprint, rising to £15350 for the Distinctive.
