Following leaked photos from earlier this week, Mazda has announced a second facelift for the Mazda Roadster in Japan.

Known as the MX-5 overseas, the two-seater open-top sports car receives a more aggressive front fascia, larger grille opening, new fog lamp bezels, chin spoiler and new 17-inch aluminum wheels.

Inside, seats are now available in new tan leather, black fabric and a combination of Alcantara and black leather materials.

Mechanical upgrades, made to enhance spirited driving, include crisper throttle response and improved brake booster proportioning.

For pedestrian safety, there's a new active bonnet which lifts at the rear to absorb the energy of impact.

The next-generation MX-5, which will be jointly developed with Alfa Romeo, is expected to arrive in 2015.
