Confirmation has arrived that the open air version of the McLaren MP4-12C will carry a sticker price of $268,250 (including $2,500 destination charge) for US customers. The price is a hefty premium over its coupe sibling which starts at a "more reasonable" $231,000, but it is still cheaper than the £195,500 ($304K) base price customers have to pay in the UK.
The MP4-12C Spider features a Retractable Hard Top that operates at speeds up to 19 mph (30 km/h). The same 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that powers the coupe has been retained for its sibling and comes with 625 PS (460 KW / 616 hp) on tap. This power is transmitted to the wheels via a 7-Speed SSG dual-clutch transmission.
The first examples will arrive at US dealerships in December following its public debut at the Concours d'Elegance in Pebble Beach in California.
